well, it’s been very quiet around here for the past one and a half years, but i am back again, alive and kicking. brought some new cases and a lot of good energy from hanging out in beautiful india. i took this little sabbatical after my first contract gig in a long time, working as user experience director from september 2007 till march 2009 with the talented folks at Neue Digitale / Razorfish in berlin.

now, some 1000+ pages of concept, wireframes, screens and so on wiser, i am happy to present the really cool stuff we did for audi and mcdonald’s germany. check it out.

towards augmented literature

found this nice and well-argumented article on the pros and cons for ebooks on the txtr blog, a berlin based start up which is developing an ebook to come out later this year. what’s so interesting about it is: the folks at txtr have started to build web services for connected reading at the same time. smart move. if you ask me, that is what takes them one decisive step ahead of all ebook hardware development so far: think about what readers will have from reading digital instead of on dead trees and deliver this experience with the hardware.

experiencing a book, like all these books you can get for your iphone now (on textunes for instance, another berlin based company) on a digital device only begins with flipping the page while the device makes a flip-the-page-sound. think literature, and i mean solid, prize-winning prose and storytelling, going together with tech features such as real time connectivity and social media = tracing the sovial graph in (simultaneous) reading in the same book all over the world, mash up= plots embedded with personal data and/or related media such as sound, film, imagery, and not to forget other pieces of literature. finally intertextuality, one of the grails of (post)modern literary theory, appears to be feasible for technical implementation on a mass medium: linking books to books that have been linked on a content level since the creation of the story thats in it.

that’s where the excitement of augmented literature, as i like to call it, kicks in for me. i have only just begun to think about the possibilities of augmented literature this year. if you share my thoughts, i’d be happy to hear what you are thinking…

schienen, die im augenblick spielen

wow, schon lange nix mehr gepostet hier. und dann dies: ich hab mich gerade köstlich beölt, als ich die „hypemachine“, eine für mich neue musikplattform entdeckte, auf der suche nach der famosen band soko und auf den „deutsch“-knopf drückte. so sah das dann aus:

fast noch besser als einer der gerade prämierten grand prix cyber lions gewinner mit den 100% nature material models von dove ist dieses feine, kleine spoof-video, das die ganze sache hübsch verdreht:

das original von dove gibts hier. und ist das alles nicht ein wunderbarer kommentar zu dem (via formfaktor) hier?? ich meine, wer braucht eine virtuelle welt, die die echte kopiert? und die es ohnehin besser kann als die virtuelle. hmjamm, genugtuung! ich geh jetzt wieder vor den kamin, ich glaub, im bärenfell hängt nochn rest country whopper …

gerade bei plasticbag.org entdeckt: eine karte der virtuellen communities. ich lebe irgendwo in mittelerde, zwischen „flickrland“ und „deviant art“ in einem land namens „lastfm„, teil einer inselgruppe, die dem hauptkontinent „myspace“ vorgelagert ist. meisten schönes wetter hier. und die musik erst. matrose, wie lange reicht der zwieback noch?

les nightingales

gerade heimgekommen, das herzt hüpft vom radeln, s-bahn treptower park, die schlesische entlang, am flutgraben vorbei. da war es. ich hörte die erste nachtigall des jahres 2007. berlin is voll von nachtigallen im sommer, aber haben wir sommer? das herz fing an zu hüpfen. jetzt bin ich zu hause. und kuck auf youtube: absolut keine singenden nachtigallen. am liebsten hätte ich hier ein 70er jahre video eingebaut, das einen sich drehenden plattenspieler zeigt, auf dem eine vogelstimmen-platte läuft…

schöner abend gestern, und hoffentlich kommen mehr davon. große freude hatte ich an robert w., der folgendes treffendes sagt über die zunft der ia’s, nein, eigentlich über den unterschied zwischen konzeptern und ia’s:

„IA – wie kannst du die geile information zugänglich machen?“
„konzeption -  wie kannst du die zugängliche information geil machen?“

adobe apollo

gruß von der re:publica aus berlin. das zweite mal, das ich als nachgewiesener nicht-techniker von adobe apollo höre bzw. lese, war gerade eben, auf der sms-comment-leinwand, die hier neben dem live-panelling und talking vor sich hin flackert. auf dem podium ging es um die zukunft der mash ups aus technischer sicht, und einer der referenten, bernhard reiter, der für den einsatz von open source software eintritt, gab zu bedenken, wie mächtig traurig er es findet, dass offene apis vorwiegend eine domäne der web- und nicht der nativen softwareentwicklung sind, vereinfacht gesagt: dass inzwischen mehr schnittstellen für webapps als desktopapps vorhanden sind, d.h. der großteil der mash up entwicklungen durch das nadelöhr „webserver“ muss. kurz danach schreibt da einer auf der sms-leinwand: „Wir freuen uns ja auch alle auf adobe apollo..“. aha, momentchen, dachte ich, hier setzt sich ein bild zusammen, langsam geht mir ein licht auf.  und das, weil mir kürzlich j.m. aus münchen zum ersten mal das konzept von adobe apollo erklärt hat. tja, und warum schreib ich das hier? damit ich später datieren kan, wann ich das erst mal davon gehört habe. punkt & smile.
